What is CRIS-Unibe. Objetive

CRIS-Unibe is an information system that gathers, stores, and provides contextualized data regarding Unibe's research activities. Its main objective is to provide researchers, administrators, grantors, and decision makers knowledge of the various research activities in the university and their respective impact. It is an essential tool required for the analysis of research impact and its use allows the design of institutional research strategies. CRIS has several objectives among which are: a. increase the visibility of the university's research, b. improve communication and collaboration among scientists, c. Preserve and provide access to data, and d. facilitate bibliometric and scientometric analysis.


Design, information organization and data structure

CRIS-Unibe uses the principal actors of the university's research ecosystem in order to organize its structure. In this sense, research centers, researchers, and projects are the main point of entry points for the system. These principal actors are described and linked via CRIS. CRIS also link this information to scientific production and technological innovation such as publications and patents, thus providing additional visibility.

  • Centers: describes the administrative units that carry out research and innovation activities.
  • Projects: describes and classifies research and innovation projects implemented at Unibe.
  • Researchers: shows the professional profile of Unibe researchers such as vita abstract, research center, projects, grants, publications, and citations.
  • Publications: describes publications with detail according to standard metadata protocols. Classification follows standardized international nomenclature regarding the documentation of scientific information. CRIS guarantees the digital preservation of documents and provides access to full texts, available for reading and download when such materials are open access.
  • Patents: describes patents that Unibe has registered in national and international patent offices.


Technology

CRIS-Unibe uses DSpace-CRIS, a free open-source extension of DSpace built and maintained by 4Science, which allows integrated management of research data and information. This software, the first of its kind, is widely used by academic and research institutions. The software meets international guidelines that facilitate interoperability and data transfer between information systems. CRIS-Unibe also integrates data from external sources such as: ORCID, Google Scholar, Dimensions, Altmetrics and Connected papers.


Development and administration

This project is developed and managed by Unibe's Learning and Research Resource Centre and is carried out in collaboration with the Dean of Research and Innovation, and the Department of Information and Communication Technologies at Universidad Iberoamericana, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. ©Unibe 2021.
