Título : | Stabilized stannous fluoride (SnF2) toothpastes may be effective in the management of hypersensitivity, while more research is needed for its effectiveness in dental caries and erosion prevention | Autores: | Abreu-Placeres, Ninoska Martínez-Mier, E. A. |
Investigadores (UNIBE): | Abreu-Placeres, Ninoska | Afiliaciones : | Centro de Investigación en Biomateriales y Odontología (CIBO) | Área de investigación : | Ciencias de la Salud | Palabras clave: | Fluoride; Toothpastes; Dental caries; Tooth erosion; Dentin hypersensitivity | Fecha de publicación : | 2021 | Editorial : | Mosby, Inc. | Publicado en: | Journal of Evidence Based Dental Practice, 21(4) | Revista: | Journal of Evidence Based Dental Practice | Volumen : | 21 | Número : | 4 | Resumen : | The search for this review included MeSH-terms, free-text terms add terms truncated and/or combined in 3 different electronic databases, including Medline OVID, Embase.com and the Cochrane Library. The search for dental erosion included documents through June 2017, while searches for dental caries and dentin hypersensitivity included documents through January 2018. The authors followed the PRISMA guidelines. To determine study eligibility, the authors worked in pairs, with each pair screening titles and abstracts and finally agreeing on the inclusion or exclusion of the studies based on their previously decided criteria. Following this process, the authors discussed and resolved any disagreements that arose. Risk of bias (RoB) was assessed using the Swedish Agency for Health Technology Assessment and Assessment of Social Services (SBU tool). Finally, 3 studies on dental caries, 8 on dental erosion, and 11 on dentin hypersensitivity were included in the systematic review, while 6 studies on dentin hypersensitivity were included in the metaanalysis. Studies in which toothpastes contained stannous chloride, stannous fluoride in combination with potassium nitrate, amino fluorides or chlorhexidine were excluded. Studies were also excluded in which SnF 2 was applied via gel, and those that used brushing with ionic or laser toothbrushes or used mouthwashes. |
