Investigación para proyecto externo: amfAR GMT Initiative, grant number: 108594-53-HAMM. The GMT Initiative provides financial support to research teams and community-based partner organizations to evaluate interventions that reduce the spread and impact of HIV among gay men, other men who have sex with men, and transgender individuals (collectively, GMT) in low- and middle-income countries.-
Human papillomavirus (HPV) can cause benign and malignant lesions in the skin, cervix, oropharynx, penis and anus. Men who have sex with men (MSM) represent one of the most-at-risk populations for HIV infections; some estimates give a total incidence of 12.5-36.9 cases per 100,000 of anal cancer between MSM, and even higher estimates with HIV coinfection. However, the correlation between the disease and HPV genotype has not been systematically explored. A cross-sectional study of HPV genotypes among HIV-infected MSM was conducted in a Dominican HIV outpatient clinic. The prevalence of High-risk HPV (HR-HPV) infection at the baseline was 42.5% (n=17), and the molecular analysis revealed that HPV16, HPV45, HPV51, and HPV52 were more commonly identified.en
