Men who have sex with men (MSM) represent one of the most-at-risk populations for HIV infections; some estimates give a total incidence of 12.5-36.9 cases per 100,000 of anal cancer between MSM, and even higher estimates with HIV coinfection. However, the correlation between the disease and HPV genotype has not been systematically explored. A cross-sectional study of HPV genotypes among HIV-infected MSM was conducted in a Dominican HIV outpatient clinic. The prevalence of High-risk HPV (HR-HPV) infection at the baseline was 42.5% (n=17), and the molecular analysis revealed that HPV16, HPV45, HPV51, and HPV52 were more commonly identified. |
